AMPLIFIER REBUILDING We rebuild
all tube type jukebox amplifiers and selection receivers.
After 30, 40, 50 years or more, capacitors leak and short. If your juke starts
out sounding good, then after a few minutes gets weaker and more distorted, the
leaking capacitors are causing the problem. You can buy a cap-kit and do it
yourself, but this won't resolve the problem of resistors out of tolerance, bad
transformers, tube sockets, dirty or bad controls etc. Also most of the cap-kits
sold (especially the low priced ones) use surplus or cheap capacitors. The
majority of capacitors made for modern equipment do not withstand the
heat generated by tube type amplifiers. I've seen these capacitors actually melt
when mounted too close to power resistors or tubes. We use Sprague or Mallory
"Orange Drop" capacitors. They are a little more expensive, but well
worth it.
We also replace resistors, transformers and tubes as needed. When you get it
back, your amplifier will sound as good as it did new.
